One of America’s finest countertenors,
Steven is director of the Vocal Arts Institute at the University of
Indianapolis. He has performed virtually all Bach’s monumental vocal works with
Joshua Rifkin’s Bach Ensemble at locations as diverse as New York’s Lincoln
Center, Australia’s Perth Festival, and the British Proms. Steven has inspired
composers to write for him, and has written a book cataloguing 20th
century works for the countertenor voice. With lutenist Dorothy Linell he has
toured the USA and central America giving recitals and masterclasses on
Elizabethan song.
His records include the Lute Songs of Thomas Campion (Naxos). Steven has also appeared in the world premieres of Ladislav Kubik’s opera Der Weg, and John Adams’ opera El Nino. |
